Even during the first year, the Wii sell mostly to casual.
Even SMG, the 2nd best game of all time was not able to move the system since the system is moving by itself because of the hype behind the product, and the innovation behind the Wiimote.
People by SMG because it is on Wii, not because it is SMG.
For them it is just another Mario based game
The PS2 succeed to sell primarly to hardcore and, only later, to casual.
MGS2/DMC/GT3/ were great system seller.
It is only later that game like buzz, singstar, GH have reached the PS2 and continued to push the hardware higher.
Wii : primary target : Casual + Nintendo fan
All others consoles : Hardcore + Sony fan and later Casual
The Wii is selling like hot cake because it is cheap and because it is very well fited to the casual crowd
(Wii hardware sales rised in Japan because of Wiifit, not because of SMG)
