It certainly had saddened me that Nintendo haven't done this this gen. At one point I think Miyamoto said they were doing just this, compairing it to PIkmin type new characters, world etc. Guess it just didn't come to fruition, maybe it's on the 3DS or something.
Obviously though the big difference between Ninty and Sony is that Ninty don't really need new IP's... they've still not released a Star Fox, Pikmin, non Game-Cube Zelda on the Wii yet, so I'm sure there are fans of those series who'll be a little disheartened to hear they're working on something else. Sony didn't really have alot of IP's before this gen hence why they made alot of new ones, and they've done a brilliant job of that.
Nintendo have made lots of new IP's but they don't seem interested in really making a full franchise out of them or expand on them, albeit most arn't story-driven so I guess that's not as easy of an option as it is for Uncharted or InFamous.
