June of 2010 was when Sony officially announced that they were profiting off the PS3

Now they just need to cover what they lost in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009

Yes and no.  At this point it's a sunk cost.  It doesn't mean there will be no PS4 if that's what you are thinking.  It does probably mean that much less will be spent on R&D.

I'd agree that some of it is a sunk profit, but overall, there is still probably hope that a break even point could be made on PS3 when referring not only to the console, but any profit made on games, accessories (such as the Move controller and even normal controllers)...I mean, we're talking at least probably 2 more years of this gen staying current where PS3 is making a profit and probably 4-5 more years after that where it will still have decent sales and be making even more profit.

You have to think about the future though too...I'm guessing rather than a complete redesign as the PS3 was, the PS4 will probably have quite a bit of its overall structure similar to the PS3, only more powerful.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
