The only advantage would have been having it across 2 platforms instead of one imo. I don't think it would have sold that much better on one HD console only. I mean it's not like every hardcore niche game sells so great on the HD twins either. It was kind of a wierd game honestly. I didn't buy it because it was simply too vile for me. Language that would make a sailor blush and violence only topped by the ManHunt games. If some of you like it that's cool, but it's just not my thing.
I'm not sure if this is apples to apples, but it's the closest comparison I can think of. Bayonetta on 360 vs. MadWorld on Wii. The NA and EMEAA sales are very close to the same, with Japan being the main difference in sales. Bayonetta isn't what I would call a niche game either. Taking into account the development and advertising budget you could argue that Madworld made more money. Bayonetta is considered a success though it failed to reach 1 million on HD consoles (not combined) yet Madworld gets panned. Oh well.
