I really believe to lose weight a person has to do about an hour of cardio in one session at least for times a week and more. There must be consistancy and sometimes you will just have to let yourself be hungary. My stomach shrunk after I rode my bike all spring and summer and I had to eat more to prevent losing to much weight. Eventually, your stomach will shrink (literally the organ) will get to a nbormal size and it will take less food to fill you up.
Cardio is number one before weight lifting when it comes to losing weight, so if you do not like soreness you will not need much weight lifting unless you enjoy it. Lifting weights is to gain muscle mass, not burn calories. But gaining some muscle mass sure will help you burn more, but as much as leatherhat would lead you to believe.
Just advise from a man whole lost a lot of weight and has learned how to keep it off.
Muscle is key, if you had done weight training with your cardio your results would have come faster
Dude I have been a weight lifter for 9 years since I was 16. I have been a gym rat, but I never lost any fat just gained muscle. I only lost fat when I learned of the joys of cardio!
You misunderstand what I'm saying. For burning fat weight lifting isn't as effective as swimming or running. But building muscle makes everything you do a much more effective way to burn fat. Plus if all you do is cardio you will lose weight (slower) and than thats it. If you add weight training you will lose fat faster and come out looking built as well. Its win- win.
I am not disagreeing only saying weight lifting is not a necessity for losing fat, it certainly helps. This is one reason women have a harder time losing weight than men because they have less overall muscle mass. Still women lose weight through exercise all the time and many of them are really weak people.
I think me and you agree with each other completely. We just are coming at the problem from different angles.
