well, you don't HAVE to hold nothing.
You could pick up a steering wheel at the junkyard and use that, of course. Hell. You could have a steering wheel for each in game car. Like on your livingroom wall, you could have a lancer steering wheel, or a civic steering wheel.
I personally think Kinect is a "cool" interface. don't underestimate it.
