I think it has to do with how you aproach music. The guy that I was talking about, who can play Buckethead stuff, when he was young I remember him taking his guitar, locking himself in his bedroom and learning how to play Master Of Puppets note for note. I don't think he left his fucking bedroom for like, 3 months lol. We never saw the guy. He had become obbsessed with being that good at it. Me on the other hand, I always idolized Kurt Cobain. I didn't really care so much about playing good as I did trying to write songs. All of my time spent with my guitar was trying to write little songs with vocals...even if they were shitty or comical. After a few years, I got better and better just like my friend did, only I got better at making music instead of being great on the fret board. I really don't think it's possible for someone to master both unless they're like, SRV or something. It takes years and years to do one or the other so time spent on one is time taken away from the other etc. |
Sounds like something that happened to me, I learned guitar just to make songs and play while I sing, which was the thing I did before. But I have a friend who is obsessed with playing the most hard songs he can find and doing it perfectly, in guitar and also in piano.
