Pretty standard view for big business really. Most corporations, even the global ones, have a geographic skew to their HQ and the culture of the country they started in.
If Microsoft or Oracle hired someone from Japan to come in and run the business I suspect the top level execs of those companies would be feeling pretty similar about corporate culture, etc.
Not saying it's right - just that it's common and nothing specific to Sony or Japanese.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
