genres of gaming vs. genres of music

i was thinking the other day, there are many similarities between the genres of gaming and the genres of music.  for instance, platformers sell very well (usually) and everyone knows their name which is kinda like the pop scene in music.  first person shooters are high testosterone manly man games which is much like rock or metal.  rpgs are a little more obscure, not as many people know about them so its like jazz.  then you have your classic side-scroller games and 8-bit or 16-bit games which only people who were alive when they were released play but they are the most fun and true games, so thats like classic rock. just thought peoplle might find that analogy interesting.
