Well for me, I've been going through 2 games all year.  Those have been Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2.  Although recently, after beating Kirby's Epic Yarn and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, they kinda came into the mix.  But I think I'm still pretty strong on my choice.  So between SMG2 and RDR I had to make a pretty touch choice but I ended up choosing:

Red Dead Redemption

Truthfully, this is the first game I've ever played and completely beat by Rockstar games.  Never had much interest ever in playing any of the GTA games or their other titles, although I tried to beat Manhunt 2 but that game kinda grosses me out in some areas haha.  Reason I liked RDR so much was the atmosphere it created.  I mean we all get tired of cheesy, stereotypical American western ideas in entertainment.  The west was never a place of people with high moral fiber.  Rockstar really did a good job of recreating the west as it probably would have been like.  And really they used it as the center of their story as they took the chaotic west and had it interact with a growing movement towards becoming "civilized".

On top of that the characters in it were simply magnificent.  And the story they went down is really one of the most memorable I've played in awhile.  Top all of that off with gameplay that works great and some clever missions and I'm left with a simply spectacular game.  When I bought RDR, I was not expecting what I got, which was one of the most complete experiences in a video game I've played.

I also hope the critics recognize this and at least put it in their thoughts when they are thinking of GOTY awards because I do think it deserves the nod.
