Well, at the very least we would ratchet up tensions and launch a second cold war, at the worst we'd provoke a shooting war with a nuclear power. I think a better question is what on Earth would we have to gain by shooting down a Russian bomber?
All Russia wants is the respect they're due as the second most powerful nuclear nation on the planet. I say we give it to 'em. A little jet fuel is a lot less expensive than a nuclear holocaust.
