I think we can take this as being in the context of EA games, because for some developers (like the elephant) this isn't going to be true this gen or the next one, if ever.

I don't think he necessarily thinks it will contribute to higher sales, I think it's more a case of wanting to keep up with the competition. If the competition provides good service and connectivity with their games, then the industry over all will move towards that, and not providing it will seen as subpar.

I don't know if it's going to be like that, but I could see it happening.

His perspective on it is too limited; most of the biggest games this gen have nothing of the sort.
