After seeing many people hate the prequels in the recent Georgs Lucas thread I think this is a right time to talk about this subject. I want to ask all of you, how do you think they went so wrong? How did the man that gave us Star Wars, empire strikes back and return of the jedi completely destroy his own creation with the prequels? The problem for me is its hard to accept Lucas lost all the talent he had and created what is known as the worst big budget movie (Phantom Menace), how can a man make one of the best movies but also one of the worst big budget movies?
Lets forget how they went so wrong. My next problem is did he never realise that the The phantom menace was awful during production, or during pre release viewings. Did he never realise the person who played Anakin in Episode 2 could never act. Did he never see how wooden the acting was, why did he never try to correct that, I can't believe he couldn't tell how wooden the acting was. Was there ever a moment during the productions of the phantom menace and attack of the clones where Lucas said "Oh sh*t, what have I done?". I hope he could see his mistakes, I don't know if he did.
Final point, did no-one else apart from Lucas realise how awful the films were? Did the actors never tell him the script sucks, or the producers, managers or co-workers? Maybe the script proof readers? Were they all afraid of telling him the movies weren't heading the right way, but they put their and the films reputation at stake for Lucas' ego? Every person who turned a blind eye during the production of The Phantom Menace is to blame.
