First review... so much damage to ruin a race.
GT5 Patch 1.03: Mechanical Damage Verdict
Verdict Unfortunately we can’t help but think that mechanical damage still needs a bit of work. We prefer the light damage option, which seems a bit more forgiving in the actual damage received and less likely to ruin a race. However, its brief period of effect means it’s less bothersome and open to abuse from aggressive racers – and considering that the penalty system already in place does a decent job of stopping that kind of racing means mechanical damage is, so far, a little redundant.
What we would like to see is a medium damage option, filling the void between light and heavy that makes it suitable for those looking to race properly, but not so excessive that a single, slight collision should destroy the chance to win.

So now they don't want mechanical damage? Polyphony Digital just can't win.

PD should do a hardcore damage mode = You hit something at high speed, your save gets erased due to your virtual driver dying, and implement it via a patch just for the lulz.
The amount of meltdowns would be amazing xD

Maybe it can track ID and delete scores also =]
and about the AI... of course in challenges and license the AI will be different, because it's pre-programed so you can use tatics to beat it... just dumb reviewers think it should be different (if AI really were used would be impossible to really win the challenges).
But again... let the damage be real, if you totalled you have to start a new career.
@CGI-Quality: would be really funny if the shadows were fixed just in online =]

I agree with you in this 100%. The Lap Battles would be impossible to even get bronze if the A.I had near the same skill as they have in A-Spec. Especially in Lap Battles such as Rome with the 512b where all the A.I cars are of equal or higher BHP and similar weight than your own car, and the passing points in Rome are almost non-existent xD.
