Since the slim launched, we've been getting claims by some that Sony is stuffing the channel because their quarterly shipments are higher than expected. But every quarter, they ship a healthy amount. They can stuff the channel in the short term, but they can't in the long term and quarterly shipments will show that. Just like manufacturers, retailers have their pull also. In the long run, shipments = sales. If Wal-Mart or Gamestop doesn't agree with Sony's terms on shipments of their products, Sony isn't just going to say screw it to big retailers like that.
If this quarter is high in shipments and next quarter (Q4) is drastically lower, then I will agree to the channel stuffing claims. But, we haven't really seen that with Sony so far.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
