PSP games are made with 32MB of ram in mind, though (the system didn't get 64MB of ram until the 2000[first slim]). The advantage that later models got from this was running the OS better and being able to cache some of the game in the extra ram to reduce loading times. All PSP games still run on the 1000 model just fine, though.
