Firstly, sales matter. If no one (or very few people, in comparison) played the game, no one (again, very few people) will remember it

Wii Sports is drastically new. If any games follow it in later gens, it'll be looked upon as a trendsetter. If they don't, it'll pretty much be regarded as one of a kind.

1. Yeah, but the fact that 60 million pepole played the game, or 40 million pepole bought the album, or 70 million bought the book means just one thing - if something will be remembered, it will be rememberd for being big in the past, and then... disappearing.

2. Yeah, each new Halo and GT and CoD is more of the same, however, you cannot deny the effects of the first Halo, and to some extent, CoD4, on the gaming world today, they had a big influence, that, for now, seems like it will last longer than Wii Sports influence, however, we can't really know at this point what will happen five years from now.

3. And that's the point, something that's "one of a kind", that has no influence, no real lasting appeal, and doesn't involve pepole emotionally, or mentally, will be remembered as something that just sold a lot.

1) Then disappearing? Really? How do you figure that? That doesn't look at all likely to me at this point.

2) The first Halo was important in ways, but it wasn't from this gen in any case. Also, CoD 4 having more influence than Wii Sports? Honestly, what the heck?

3) Lots of the best things that people remember from the past are considered "one of a kind" because they were so special and unique. Honestly, those things have a lot of lasting appeal and I'm willing to make a (a rather pointless and unwinnable, :P) bet that more people have been emotionally and mentally attached to Wii Sports than to CoD 4.

1. Yeah, cause a lot of pepole talk about the Backstreet Boys now, right? After all, Millenium is around the fifth best selling music album of all time.

2. Err... yeah? If you consider the sales of games who tried to rip-off CoD4, either completely (MoH) or just a lot of aspects of it, like a long-term leveling up in shooters, it had a much bigger impact on the overall gaming market than Wii Sports.

3. You missed my point, pretty much... completely.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
