The real answer I'm surprised no one has mentioned:

Xbox live friends

People want to play with their friends. Most American's/Canadian's friends have the 360, most Americans/Canadians buy 360 to play with their friends. The advent of the online services solidified this fact e.g my little brother originally wanted a ps3 as well but asked for a 360 because thts what his friends have. It's like a "self-fulfilling prophecy" if thats the right use of the term or maybe "positive feedback" would be a better term i.e more have something, more want very same thing to be among...kinda like joining facebook because all your friends did. This is the era of social networking afterall.

1. THATs WHAT ALL HIS FRIENDS HAVE

2. The lesser reason: I already have a ps3 (this is a lesser reason because I wasnt living at home at the time so it's not like he could play my ps3)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
