Ask EA how that worked out with Dante's Inferno. It was a completely competent and pretty good GOW clone that got absolutely descimated by critics. Activision tried the same thing with Singularity (Bioshock) and got a slightly better critical response but it did not sell through the roof either. And I can't leave out Darksiders .The King of unoriginal content that was another good game this year.
I personally have no problem playing games that borrow concepts from other games and make them their own...as long as the play well. Unfortunately critics and too many gamers now a days think otherwise.
