Hm, if some manufacturer takes such license, what would the extra license-fees cost ?
And how many extra costs will it take to make the product xbox compatible ( CPU's + memory + other electronics ) ?
I'm pretty sure the that there will be no benefits at all for the producer, if people want to play xbox games, let them buy the console.
And if they only want to get a HD/DVD-player / recorder I don't think they're willing to pay a few 100 bucks extra for the other required electronics just to play games. They would buy a cheaper product with the same (if not more/better) features and quality from the competition.
They might loosen the restrictions for 3rd party accessory producers though.
