I actually own the Kinect and I can say it is innovative even with the current crop of games. You can move forwards and backwards in the same way you can move left and right. You are restricted in that movment because of space. Of course if running on the spot does not work for a game then no reason why you could not stick and leg forwad then back (remember the gas pedal for the racing game demo) to stimulate forward and backward movment in the same manor as sticking your leg left or right would block a pass in the football game.
I think it is actually time you guys took a rest from dreaming up all the reasons why you think it will not succeed sit back watch it succeed and start thinking out the box a bit more.
