I think the real problem is that many people seriously believe Kinect to be a revolution that will make traditional controllers obsolete. It's much more appropriate to consider Kinect as a kind of special controller optimized for certain games. Flight sticks for example are perfect for flight games but they suck for pretty much all other games. Microphones are great for karaoke games but you can't use them in other games. Racing wheels are fantastic for racing games. Kinect is just perfect for sports/fitness and dance games, but for pretty much all other games there are simply better control schemes.
The publishers will of course nevertheless try to adopt traditional games to Kinect, but they're not going to be successful. Kinect Joy Ride is a perfect example - making a racer with Kinect-only-controls can be done, but you have to make so many sacrifices that the result just sucks. It's like making a jump & run work with a racing wheel. Kinect will only be successful where it's superior to existing control schemes - dancing is a perfect example, but there are simply very few types of games where this is the case.
