Car shadows have never been a strong point in GT games.. they often flicker about dont they?  

Well, I don't know to be honest. GT5 is the first GT I've played, so I don't know about the quality of shadows in other GTs. But as I said, overall it looks great. Of course some tracks look more impressive, some look less impressive, but this is something that can be seen in every racing game.
