well the new generation wont come until 2012 with the possible Super Wii but even that isn't that much of an innovative leap in technology  and SONY said they wouldn't really release an new console till 2015 and with Microsoft investing 500 million in marketing for the kinect and countless more for the kinect we wont see an new box from them until around 2013-2015 region. 

So you have an long wait. but its been that the end of the gen is always the best and we have around 2-5 years to go so the best is yet to come. But the fact that gens are lasting Longer then ever may be problem for gamers. 

"2015?" Really? I hadn't read anything definitive. Just a lot of statements suggesting both MS and SCE wanted to prolong this generation for as long as humanly possible.

That "Ten Year Plan" of SCE's that everyone not belonging to the SDF scoffed at is now looking like reality.

I agree that some of the best games in terms of polish should be yet to come, but the real question is who will be there to keep the soft sales numbers up? New users or the die hards who have already been playing for the past four or so years?

As far as hardware updates go, if that matters so much to some, those people may shift back to PCs so they can spend as much as they want as often as they want on keeping the most up to date hardware.

With any luck the next gen of consoles will be a little bit more than just "faster GPU, faster CPU/more cores, more RAM/VRAM" otherwise the only thing worth buying the next gen of consoles for will be the first party exclusives and occasional third party exclusive.

In the meantime, SCE and MS need to ratchet up the online services and further integrate their consoles into the home media center to make them something indespensible even if you aren't buying the most recent $60 retail game.
