I think we have already highlighted that the Japanese are no more constrained on space than the a person living in the UK. What you do have is circumstances in which Japanese live in very little space but then you also have a lot of Japanese living in large homes it rather depends on where you live.
Also it is worth noting that the traditional Japanese homes really only have 1 room which is transformed into whatever it needs to be at the time. Most items are stored. I doubt this practice continues today but it does mean the Japanese are less likely to throw a wobbly because they had to rearrange the living room.
