This is my thought also, imho, it if any company joins forces it will be nintendo and sony (and i dont think that will happen). if their in a position where they have to, i think it will be them. my reasoning is because in the worst case scenario they dont want the gaming industry to fall into the hands of a foreign company.
if it remains in japan, then they still have some control about the big 3rd party developers, and control over the way the gaming industry moves. if microsoft have control it puts nintendo or sony at a bargaining disadvantage imo.
not to mention gaming is a billion dollar industry, if microsoft was to gain control, then it could cost thousands of jobs in japan, and i dont think that either company wants to see that happen. but this is just my personal opinion, it might not necessarily be true!
