There's two reasons for this.

1. Me and the wife are of the opinion that the current state of gaming in popular culture means there is no excuse for gamers to get into long-term relationships with non-gamers - or, at least, people who are hostile to the pasttime.

2. Mario games are excellent ice breakers and can make for a very good, very relaxed date with absolutely no pressure.

I'm sorry to intrude but...

The bolded is just... not true. In order to find a gamer around here, you need to dig deep. Male gamers are rare as hell and usually when you find them, they only play one genre (sports games). Girl gamers are downright mythical.

As for not being hostile to the pasttime... yeah, that's probably easier to find. But answer me this: if a girl is not a gamer herself, wouldn't she probably resent you for dedicating so much of your free time to something that she isn't  able to understand, or share with you? In my experience and observations, yes. Yes she would.

I apologize for my lack of clarity, but I was really referring to North America with that statement.
