It'd be cheaper than BD-Rom possibly as they can use the defunct DVD production lines to fabricate it. I remember that was one of the reasons touted for HD-DVD winning. That means that Microsoft can ask for even more of a cut for game discs since they would own the format too.

Cheaper fabrication due to being able to use the same production lines was definitely one of the advantages of HD-DVD. Hard to believe differences in production cost per disc was made to be such an issue, but that's all history. In the end, the thing that killed HD-DVD boiled down to studio support, which naturally doesn't matter for the purpose of publishing games for a proprietary gaming platform.

They could even go with a dual format platform much like early PS2 games were published on both CD-ROM and DVD depending upon the amount of space a developer needed. DVD or HD-DVD.

Also if they support CH-DVD or their HD-DVD based version it would make it signficantly easier to break into the Chinese market as it would probably garner some sort of official sanction at the higher level. Im sure the Chinese Govt would like the closed nature of the box. They wouldn't need it so much for the west as most people who wanted Blu Ray would have probably got it by then or alternatively dual laser systems work just fine if they want to go down that route.

As for dual format well I kept hearing the words ' forwards compatibility' so maybe thats part of what it is about.

Tease.
