That is common business these days thanks to the beauty of the internet.

A lot of devices / products (not just phones) are getting better and better due to updates, patches etc. Look at Android, Xbox Live / PSN, games, Kinect, bluray players etc. Products really evolve these days and I don't expect Windows phone 7 to be any different. Copy / paste and flash support are coming in 2011 for example. That is a major step.

It is certainly true, MS has a lot of execution power to improve the phone. But I’m surprised at the long llist of shortcomings in WP7 - and while MS has to improve (and even rethink some stuff) the competitors will come out with even more goodies. In particular, look at the speed at which Android is producing new features.
Now, I started listing some of the WP7 shortcomings - but I got tired halfway
(sorry for all the exclamation marks ):
  • Cut/Copy/Paste (really annoying when you need)
  • Customization
    • Ringtones !!!
    • Wallpaper (home screen / lock screen) (in Android you can even put a live widget on these)
    • ...
  • MultiTasking !!!
  • Folders !!! I really like to be able to organize my stuff in categories/folders of my own choice
  • Multiple screens - I actually prefer multiple screens in stead of one long list
  • Browser:
    • HTML5
    • Flash
  • Unified inbox - how bad is that !!! I really hate having to check all my accounts individually
  • threaded email !!!
  • visual voicemail !!!
  • universal search !!!
  • Automatic (continuous) backup of your phone - you have to manually copy files to SkyDrive - although, photos are backedup autmatically
  • Tethering and WiFi hotspot !!!
  • ...
  • ... zzz zzz zzz
