12 years is a lot, but good thing for sentencing him in jail.
Anyways I live in Canada, and my old place I used to live at, got vandalized, the kitchen was covered with ketchup, mayonnaise etc with the f word .. It was done as a hate crime. We called the police, they came, though they didn't do anything. The funny thing is we found out who it was later before the police, from witnesses though it was a small kid. I know this happened like 6 years or so ago but just stating how if it were done by a 8 year old, no action is taking at all. Not saying they should go to jail, but something like psychological help or whatever it would be. Shortened my story so some things may not make sense to you.
