If you can set it up properly so that the TV doesn't get in the way, that strikes me as a better solution as it will give the camera at least an extra foot of distance to the player, possibly even 2-3 depending on how your have your entertainment center set up.

I would imagine it's like that because the Kinect moves around. My space works alright with it below my TV but it would work much better above my TV...and I don't like the looks of the sensor sitting below my TV.

Well it is kind of big unless you have an extra shelf for it.
With all the crap already in front of my TV (Wii sensor bar, PSEye) I'll either have to shuffle things around or go with a wall mount. The TV mount looks pretty ridiculous; that's a lot of hardware to mount a camera.
