PLAYSTATION BRAND was the biggest thing in gaming when PS3 launched so they could afford to launch PS3 at such a high price and still be around
it won't be the same with PS4,yeah PLAYSTATION is still a very big thing but not as big as when PS2 was around
also there is no need to launch at $600,it was with PS3 cause they wanted to push BLu-ray otherwise it would have launched at $400 and profited from the start
