Not to worry, the date got pushed back mostly because MGS4 has a worldwide release, which means the usual 3-6 month post-production work (dubbing, language customization) is being done ahead of time. It should be released by summer of 2008 at the latest, though -- Ryan Payton's KojiPro podcast has lots of details about the production schedule. They're doing lots of refining and tweaking, but the basic engine is there, so there are no major hitches which might derail the release.
DMC3 is looking sweet. I just hope they matched the action with a decent storyline.
