Combining "kids stuff" and "galactic political intrigue"? Hmmmm, kinda like those other movies...oh crap, what were they called...oh yeah, Star Wars EpIV-VI. Obi-won doesnt remember the droids? Or Obi-won doesnt act like he remembers the droids? Or maybe there more R2 and protocol droids in the galaxy than just Threepio and Artoo? To be honest, the initial meeting between Luke and Obi-won was always slap full of mystery to me. I always got the impression that there was much more that Obi-won wasnt telling us/Luke. The tidbits he dropped about his past with Anakin and the Clone Wars, and the way he reacted when Luke told him that Artoo was looking for him. I never got the impression as a kid that the "I dont seem to recall ever owning a droid" was a straight-forward statement. From the very beginning, Obi-won was mysterious, elusive, and selectively truthful. |
By kids stuff... I mean things for 4-5 year olds. A lot of the stuff in Phantom Menace could be straight outta Yabba Gabba or something.
The older starwars kids stuff was actually congruent with the matieral. Like say a Justice League cartoon or even like Ben 10.
Political "the world is in trouble" intrigue DOES NOT work when you make the threat a bubling idiot army of droids.
I mean it's a wonder those trade federation droids can conquerer the act of going from one room to another without exploding.
I do have the same issue with ROTJ though.
With the Ewok's beating the stormtroopers, but at least it's not prevelant and happens only towards the end of the movie at the climax so it takes you a while to ask things like...
"Wait... did a wooden arrow the size of a stick just go through combat troop armour?"
Also, the Ewok's were just supposed to be this primitive stupid race of teddy bears.
Not the scourge of the Galaxy.
I feel like I personally could take down a squad of droids.
