In my opinion Europe and Asian cuisines are both great but are VERY different from each other in terms of some fundamental ingredients which I understood that I can't live without after only 10 days in Taiwan:

- High Quality Vegetable Oil (olive oil, sunflower etc.)
- Tomato paste
- Bread and any kind of pastry based on wheat
- Milk based foods (butter, cheese, yoghurt)
- Many green herbs
- Desserts (which are sweet!)

When I asked a guy where I can find cheese in Taipei he told he that I could go to a Mc Donald's :P 

That's how really bad it was.
