The good old userbase argument.  How well did that work in God of War III?  I forgot.

How'd it work out for Mingol?  Or Ratchet & Clank?  Or any Sony game whose audience stretches beyond the narrow-yet-vocal hardcore?

And how do we know that GT5 is going to be the same?  The thing is, everyone said GOW3 was impossible to sell as much as the previous ones (many of the same people in this thread).  Plus, GT5's userbase will be bigger than when other GTs released.  And that userbase doesn't look like it's going to stop increasing anytime soon.  I know many people wish that, but it is what it is.

I don't think it's so much size of the userbase as it is makeup.  GT is a game with mainstream pull, but PS3 isn't really a platform with a mainstream base.   It's focus and audience is narrower, which is why games like R&C or Mingol haven't done as well on it; they really need that "mainstream" that we saw on PS1 and PS2.  These franchises also haven't done nearly as well on PSP either, while GOW actually has done pretty well there too.

On the other hand, I expect GT5 probably getting bundled to hell and back, which will probably help pad out the numbers and get them more comparable with previous gen GTs.  Sort of like what happened with Prologue in Japan.
