Sony Corp.’s Playstation Move controller for the Playstation 3 held an sold out status at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s online division this week due to high demand of the peripheral.

This week, the Playstation Move product page at Walmart.com disclaimed an out of stock status.

Additionally, this week the Playstation Move product page at GameStop.com disclaimed a ‘Backordered’ status.

Finally, this week the Playstation Move product page at Amazon.com disclaimed a ship time of two to four weeks.

And Kinect is sold out everywhere.  It's pretty amazing isn't it?  The peripheral hasn't even come out yet and it's sold out.  Wonder if that says anything...

It means MS is spending 500mil on a marketing campaign while sony is getting a simillar good result for fraction of the cost.

They aren't getting a good result.  Just because they are shipping well now, doesn't mean it will continue.  Sales have continously gone down every week for the Move, despite the Christmas frenzy that has already begun.  I can gaurentee you that MS understood that 500 mill was spent so that people are actually going to buy the 360 system, which is $300 bucks.  300 x 2,000,000 (MS's lowest aproximation)= 600,000,000 dollars in the first quarter.  put that up to the highest estimation:  300 x 4,000,000 = 1,200,000,000, in the first quarter.  Not very many people are actually going to buy the 150 kinect, cause it's too expensive.  Everyone here has stated that.  MS has done this so that their cream of the crop is going to be the casual gamer this fall.  And just like how pachter predicted this coming spring, the 360 will see a price drop, along with a Kinect price drop.  Both of these price drops will sky rocket sales.

People enjoy the Kinect (including myself) enough to just play with this interface.  Watching a movie is actually fun.  It's amazing.  LIterally.  There is nothing in this room except you, your t.v, and your xbox 360 kinect bundle.  And your watching t.v.  No remotes, no controllers, just awesomeness.

The interface alone drives people crazy (MS has actually done studies on just the interface alone, and they  have yielded these results).

We are the 28th of october... At least dont use the words "frenzy" and "already begun".

On another note, Microsoft spent 500 million on marketing because they had too. Spending so much on marketing is not something to brag about. Other companies can spend much less on their product and be successful or as successful.

Yes!!! With this logic, I can do anything!!!

I could easily sell anything I want at half the cost because my product is better!!!

Microsoft doesn't "have" to spend that money.  They already make bank on the existing sales.  You put in money to get money, and you invest in things that show a lot of possibilities for growth.  If you believe the product will do well, then you invest in it.  Show me a product that has made more money than it's competitors and didn't have as much commercial time as it's competitiors in it's infancy.

What comes to mind?  Minecraft?  That's about it.  When something actually makes it to a commercial (or into commercialization), it means that it has gone under rigorous analyzing and has been seen as well worth the cost (when speaking of commercializaiton on a national scale, local economy's differ when it comes to this idea).

I have a feeling your going to understand this as much as euphoria.  So, to make it more simple, let's wait 1 week, yeah, 1 week, and tell me what you think about kinect sales.

You failed to grasp the point. They certainly spent so much because they felt they had too. As example, since you want one, Kinect will probably never sell more than Wii. But Nintendo didnt spend so much on marketing. Why you ask. Because Nintendo was confident their product would work without investing that much in marketing.

Theres could be literally hundreads of examples since no company spend that much marketing for one product. 500 millions, dont you realise thats enormous.

Yes, I do realize how much that is.

And you fail to see me making fun of your point.  Which means I understood your point, and tried to say that Microsoft doesn't need to advertise it, but they want to.  They feel, and so do their investors, that Kinect will pay for it self in the long run.  And just an F.Y.I, 500 million is how much Microsoft spent on the original Xbox 360 advertisement.  So there goes that theory that no one does that.

Nintendo didn't invest cause they didn't feel they had to?  Please.  Look at their profits before the Wii.  They are a fraction of what the Wii was, and Nintendo had no idea what was going to happen.  No one did.

The Kinect will sell like a hot cake.  We have 2 days and counting till the madness of seeing no Kinect available in store.  With that kind of purchasing power taking place, I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft put more money into advertisement, because chances are high that the profit ratio for the Kinect is 2:1, seeing as the console itself using 5 year old technology (soong to be 6), and the Kinect is probably worth an actual $80 before sale.  And with a price cut this coming spring (look a analysts projections of the Kinect dropping to $99, making the bundle 249), things will be insane for M$.

I actually think that the 360 will go down to $199 with it's Kinect Bundle, cause the console itself can take a price cut and so can the Kinect.  $99 for a Kinect, $149 for the 360 (arcade edition).  But that's just looking at how the 360 uses cheap techonology (with today's standards).  With that, Microsoft could easily out pass everyone because they would most likely charge 199 for the Kinect bundle.  If M$ does this, the Wii won't exists, and the PS3 most likely won't be effected.

My personal feeling on the whole thing.

V:  And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn't be? War, terror, disease. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the now high chancellor, Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Last night I sought to end that silence.
