honestly u can't tell me overall what you see on TV for Enslaved is better looking than heavenly sword.
combat is shallower(hack and slash part of monkey is much much shallower than nariko's many stances and arial combat) graphic is weaker than heavenly sword the controls are more clunky story is good in both voice acting is superb in both (maybe a bit better done in Heavenly sword)
overall i think heavenly sword is an 8.5/10 and this is a 7.5/10 game |
I'm trying not to get sucked into this. But here I go--having last played Heavenly Sword about two months ago:
Heavenly Swords controls are clunky. The sixaxis controls (which can be turned off) are a burden instead of a blessing. I never learned a single combo--maybe some people did. I just button mashed and shook the controller when Nariko got knocked into the air. It worked. Many of the fights didn't require any thought at all. The game consisted mostly of arena fight after arena fight. Kill a few enemies. More would jump in. Kill them. Move on until it happened again. The few scenes featuring Kai were the highlight for me.
Enslaved featured platforming, combat, exploration, and whatever you want to call riding on the "cloud" was. Plus Enslaved featured a fully controllable 3D camera. The vast majority of Enslaved's cutscenes were real time (in fact, I think all of them were). Many of Heavenly Sword's were pre-rendered using the game engine. Character models in cutscenes looked better than the in-game models in HS. In Enslaved, they looked exactly the same. There was more diversity in Enslaved's environments, too. And many of HS's animations were un-natural.
How you could say HS's controls were not clunky is beyond me. I do know that sometimes (a lot of the time, actually,) in Enslaved, Monkey wouldn't jump when I knew there was some place he could jump to. I don't ignore the game's faults. There were some 2D plants and fire in Enslaved, too. But overall, my more recent playthrough of Enslaved left me far more impressed than my recent playthrough of Heavenly Sword.
This is all opinion, mind you. And in the end, it seems like we are debating whether one game from Ninja Theory looks better than another game from Ninja Theory. It all seems kind of pointless. Look back to a couple threads before Enslaved's launch and a few threads following Enslaved's launch. I posted that it was easily one of the prettiest games on the market. Lots of critics agree with this opinion, also.
So, when the thread title asks "why is Enslaved so much inferior to Heavenly Sword", I disagree. Graphics AND gameplay wise. Now, as far as sales are concerned, Enslaved sucks.
And that's all I have on the matter. *leaves thread*

and just for the record, here's a post I made back in August stating that I was playing Heavenly Sword again (you have to look closely at the post). I actually enjoyed the experience a lot. The story was still very good. I hate threads like this because it always makes me overly critical of a game that I like--just like Leo-J made me go back and play Uncharted 1 just to look for shortcomings. It's no fun trying to hate on something you like just for the sake of winning an internet argument. Really, when it'all said and done, I won't have converted anybody and nobody will have converted me.
