Actually you are wrong. According to sony website its 5.9 million for this year. Those are units shipped not sold . There is a difference between the two.

Before is start typing , just want to clarify that i have both xbox360 and ps3 therefore i ain't biased towards a particular console.

That figure is the amount of ps3 and xbox 360 shipped not sold. There is a difference between them.
Plus i don't know how you got 8.1mil but on sony site it says 5.9

You need to add the 2.2m from Q4 to get the number of units for this calendar year.
