Meaning all sections are now doing well. So you can't say xyz saved its ass when they are all doing well. To put that into some kind of perspective for the last 3 months MS made $5.41 BILLION in PROFIT. That is $1.8 Billion profit a month. Sony on the other hand on their previous results posted a profit of $210m. That is a huge difference in the amounts of profit each company makes.

was there really any need for that? From what I've read its been unanimous praise except the odd post?

I guess people went into rage after reading one post? :P
