It's an action/RPG I guess. I actually thought it had more in common with Zelda than Chrono Trigger.

Ehh it's almost exactly like Soul Blazer or Illusions of Gaia but yeah Zelda is a much more popular example though it's a bit more intricate than the snes Zelda game
