Go to Network settings on the Xbox dashboard and run a Xbox Live connection test. It will connect and then give you a notification saying you will experience problems online if your nat is set to moderate or strict. If it's open you won't have any message appear.
If your Nat is anything but open write down your router make and model and go to Porftforward.com and then look up your router and look at the guide on how to portforward for your Xbox 360.
