Are the "hit" songs bad and annoying or am I getting old?

Music videos changed music and gave everyone their first taste of ADD culture but there were several bands in the 80s that were both popular and solid musicians (REM, U2, GnR, Metallica, David Bowie, The Smiths, etc.). In fact, here is a short list of top ten 80s musicians I found:

  1. Michael Jackson
  2. Prince
  3. Madonna
  4. U2
  5. Bruce Springsteen
  6. Run-D.M.C.
  7. Van Halen
  8. Public Enemy
  9. Billy Joel
10. The Police

Madonna and MJ are pop but no one else is considered pop music.
