Pop music always sucked.

Yes, even the stuff you loved as a child. Admit it and move on.

Before Gaga/Ke$ha, there was Britney/n*sync. Before that, there was Paul Abdul and Ace of Base. Before that, there were hundreds of terrible synth bands. Continue ad nauseum.

Not that I care about Top 40 pop music, but there is a difference between Gaga (who I will admit I wrote off as being "just the flavor of the day") and all the earlier pop artists you referred to in that she's a legitimate musician and as far as I know, she's had classical musical training, as in she can read and write music and actually writes her own songs.

I don't know if Ke$ha writes her own music and I really don't even care enough to check, but point is there are actual pop stars who are legit musicians, even if their music meshes with the lowest common demoninator by design.

Most pop acts are manufactured by studio producers. All boy pop groups with the exception of Hanson, and girl pop groups like the Spice Girls all fall into the "studio concoction" formula which often appeals to mainstream radio.

Pat Benatar was accepted to Juilliard. Just sayin'. I'm not bashing Gaga, just pointing out that she's nothing special.
