The pension is $200 a month for each Season played in the NFL.
Averege NFL Career length is 3 and a half seasons.
So... $800 a month for the average player to be generous. Or $9,600 a year. Starting at age 55.
Granted their conditions aren't going to be bad as your 10 season guys... but even a 10 season guy is only getting 24,000 a year... and probably has some serious day to day pain and or mental impairments.

Thats ridiculously low. I've read studies of football players having much higher rates of alzheimer's, so that with the obvious physical problems that these guys have they do deserve to get reimbursed for their efforts.
Its hard to believe that a warrior like Brett Favre can play 20 seasons and only get $40,000 a year for all the pain and suffering he's going to have for it.

but who gives a rip if Farve has a pension. He makes millions every year. It is called not being an idiot and saving for your own retirement. Pretty much every football player could have millions in the bank if they didn't decide to live lavishly. They could still be comparatively living it rich while saving for the future.
The pension argument is stupid if they already have a minimum payment in place for their players. Here are the supposed minimum salaries for 2007
Rookies - $285,000 One Year Veteran - $360,000 Two Year Veteran - $435,000 Three Year Veteran - $510,000 Four to Six Year Veteran - $595,000 Seven to Nine Year Veteran - $720,000 Ten Year Veteran - $820,000
Honestly, I really don't care about this stupid lockout. If there is no football next year they'll probably lose a lot of happy fans like the NHL did with their last lockout.

Agreed. I was gonna point the pension thing out with Favre lol. They must have forgotten about his actual contract. Guy probably has 150 million in the bank lol. He drives a beat up pickup truck to games. Honestly, I don't know if they would lose to many fans. Most of them would come right back.
