Its a fucking dumb idea, and as said before I cant imagine anyone other than investors of the company suporting this. Do you know whats going to happen when people get wise to this?

New Buyers will not have as much money to buy new games, they will buy less new games or buy more used games. Their trade in/craigslist value for their games will be marginalized and they will not have as much money to buy new. So the game industry takes losses/ not necessiraly makes the gains on the multiplayer DLC.

Used gamers may buy less used games but will NOT buy new games at full retail price. They will wait until they can get their Madden/COD or whatever at a cheaper new price becaues they didnt have/want/or feel a game is worth $60. The dev does gain money from this, presumably relative to the sale price of the game.

Pissed off gamers will not buy and bootleg the games to stick it to the industry that they feel is getting too greedy.

So I think in the end it will be a wash, game companies will probably sell more copies at a lower overall price point

You act like you can get recently released games for 1/2 if you buy used.  You only save $5.

When the game does reach the point where it's something like $30, then you're only spending $5.  It's not a huge deal and think of it as supporting the people that poured their blood sweat and tears into entertaining you.
