Let's say his statement was true back then (remember, 2007). Even if it was, how do we know he didn't mean by a huge margin? There are many degrees in that statement, and it's clear from that he wasn't lumping in his felow developers in with those who couldn't properly grasp the PS3 (like Factor 5 and Free Radical, who were otherwise great studios).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
