That is to say the movies where visuals/visual effects are a big part of the experience.

Just went to buy 'How to train Your Dragon' for my kids and the store I went to had no copies available on Blu ray, but tons of copies in store on DVD. Their other store in town had one copy left on Blu-ray. So basically almost all Blu ray copies sold out within 24 hrs of release. This means:

1) High Blu ray demand ; or

2) This particular retailer screwed up and significantly under-ordered the Blu ray version but DVD still sold more in total (but with lots of DVD still on shelf it means significant over-order of the DVD version); or

3) Blu ray demand is highly front loaded, whereas DVD demand will have better legs.

Whatever the case it would seem the retailer under-ordered this movie for Blu ray.

I'm guessing that, because of the price difference, movies that are not so much of a visual spectacle will tend to sell better on DVD for a long time to come. But, despite the price difference, the visually spectacular movies will progressively sell better and by wider margins on Blu ray.
