@Sqrl: Yeah, Jesus death was on Nisan 14th which generally puts it in the March/April time frame. There's no way Jesus birth would have been in the winter. Bethlehem was noted for its harsh winters, and the Scriptures indicate that the sheperds were out in the fields with their sheep around the time Jesus was born. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

  

The "Scriptures" are no more reliable than any other unaccountable source. Jesus is scientifically improbable, and was in fact totally relevant because it contributes to the topic of why the date was chosen (i.e. I conclude the date was completely arbitrary).
