Well considering there hasn't been a reported case of it happening yet (that I've heard of) I probably wouldn't worry about it urz-truly. Just for a reference, I used my PS2 on and off as a DVD player for the last 3 years and it's still going strong, so it varies. Here's hoping that you're not one of the first unlucky people to have their blu-ray screw up.
